Event Description

New to Twitter? Created an account but don't really know where to start? Here’s good news! This online training session by Telecentre.org Foundation will help you become part of the world's tweeting community in just 1 hour!

 

On October 3,TCF’s community staff will guide you through the first steps of tweeting:

  • Get to know Twitter, its uses & benefits
  • Distinguish between home & profile pages
  • Understand the difference between friends & followers
  • Write your first tweet
  • Favorite a tweet
  • Learn about retweets, hashtags & mentions
  • Distinguish replies from direct messages
  • Learn how to add an image or link to your tweet
  • Learn about shortened links
  • Find out how to create private & public lists

 

Schedule

The training will take place at 3 different timesto enable community members from around the world to participate:

  • Wednesday, October 3, at 2:00pm HKT = Hong Kong Time (GMT+8): Asia, Pacific, Indian Ocean, Australia
  • Wednesday, October 3, at 2:00pm CEST = Central European Summer Time (GMT+2): Europe, Africa, Eurasia
  • Wednesday, October 3, at 2:00pm CST = Central Standard Time (GMT-6): North, Central & South America, Carribean

How can you participate?

1. Training will happen through Twitter itself, so you need a Twitter account/ID.

No account yet? Create one – it’s FREE! Sign up here.

2. You need to be a member of this (English) community site.

Not yet a member? Sign up here.

3. You need to update/fill up your profile page in this (English) community site with your Twitter ID.

To do so, go to "Settings" (top right) then scroll to "Social Network/Chat ID" & fill in your Twitter ID preceded by the "@" sign e.g. @telecentreorg

4. You need to confirm your participation by marking “Will attend” at the top right of this page at least a day before the training dateso we can verify your profile against your Twitter ID.

5. At the appointed date & time, go to http://twitter.com/telecentreorg & follow the training instructions happening live!

Make sure to constantly refresh the page to catch all of it.

 

What else is in store?

On October 23 (new date), TCF will be staging “TweetIT!”, a Twitter-based question-and-answer contestthat seeks to promote the use of Twitter among members of our online community.
