Online Community - Telecentre.org Foundation

Our first theme for the month of February will be "Content & Services for Telecentres". We hope that the community will have thorough and in-depth discussion on issues surrounding this important topic and share valuable experiences, resources and ideas.

Below are just some suggested discussion items to help get the members thinking and the dialogue started. Additional topics are very much appreciated.

1. Examples of content and services that you offer in your telecentres
2. How is it delivered?
3. The process that you have gone through in order to identify the content & services to offer
4. Uptake of the community
5. Success stories

National Alliance Against Hunger and Malnutrition (NAAHM) Nigeria wishes to appreciate Telecenter for its services and work. We are planning to host West African Regional Meeting of the Alliance Soon in March 2011. We will love if partners and those who engage on this platform share with us the experiences

Hi,

We offer Microsoft Digital suite (a complete training on all MS applications), Business Management and Entrepreneurial skills, ICT Appreciation, Desktop publishing.

We provide blended learning: The classroom and online learning

Independent sampling from friends and neighbours along with internet searches informed our content offering.

The community is trying to adjust to the idea of internet-based learning. Most prefer seeing the lecturer in person. They  believe it gives them assurance and security that all is well with their learning.

A few are getting the hang of it, but we are cautious about pushing the web-based learning too far at this stage .

Hi,

At Kogere CKC, we offer Microsoft office packages plus internet technology. This is a basic literacy and we plan to collaborate with national and/or international examining bodies in offering their courses.

Here people prefer the classroom setup with a teacher and a board for illustration. Computer illiterate prefer classroom setup with a teacher in front for explanations + board for illustrations.  And even the most literate prefer the same.

The community is responding well to these because it enables them do basic work like typesetting and browsing.

Our success is the 9th march graduation. Eleven youths graduated having completed seven applications.
