Am delighted to inform you all that the long awaited wireless internet interconnection to Rural areas has been tested in Nakaseke .This project is funded by the International Telecommunication Union ( ITU) and being executed by the Ministry of ICT -Uganda .
The project is aimed at enhancing Internet sustainability in Rural areas and about 9 sites mostly Schools have been connected on the Net Work using the Telecentre as the main Access Point.
Secondly the project is also aimed at establishing affordable and reliable internet connectivity in the Rural and per- urban areas. In this case therefore, the Band width (E1)is to be shared among the nine sites to make it affordable.
However, it is our task to introduce the new communication internet skills to the end users to ensure that we have enough clients to utilize the facility and make it strongly sustainable in the long run.
The project is piloted for a of six ( 6) months and there after the Telecentre together with other partners will be meeting the required rental bills.
If you are out there and you can volunteer in internet training to the end users we warmly welcome you and we target to train over 1000 people in the period of six months
Congratulations Nakaseke. We trust that the project will go beyond the pilot phase. The servise rates will have to offset the rental bills and the telecenter will become sustainable in a long term.
I am sure this will be one of the good examples in East Africa.
This is great as we need build an information society, telecentre is an essential tool in bridging the Digital Divide, the action taken in Nakaseke shoulb the stimulunt as many society are isolated in the inforamtion society.
