Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations celebrates the World Food Day
on the 16th October.As the day is approaching the country offices of the FAO are taking preparations to celebrate the event with proper manner.Usually the ministries of agriculture,livestock,fisheries and forestry of the member states of the UN coordinate to observe this event.As a normal practice the FAO headquarters choose a theme for the WFD
of each year.This year the theme has been chosen,'Food prices- from crisis to stability'.
Price swings, upswings in particular, represent a major threat to food security in developing countries. Hardest-hit are the poor. According to the World Bank, in 2010-2011 rising food costs pushed nearly 70 million people into extreme poverty.
According to FAO,“Food prices- from crisis to stability” has been chosen as this year’s World Food Day theme to shed some light on this trend and what can be done to mitigate its impact on the most vulnerable.
Telecentres have contributed in the production,marketing and technology transfer for food to some extent.Specially, the mobile phones have have proved its worth in the production and marketing of food in many ways.
