UNU Open Courseware
United Nations University launches the UNU OpenCourseWare Portal, which offers open access to about a dozen courses developed by three of UNU's Research and Training Centres and Programmes (RTC/Ps) and the Tokyo-based UNU Media Studio. The intent of the UNU OpenCourseWare Portal is to make the course materials used by UNU RTC/Ps available on the web, free of charge, to any user anywhere in the world. The initiative is not meant to replace degree-granting higher education or for-credit courses, but rather to provide content that can be used by educators for curriculum development, by students to augment their current learning resources and by individuals for independent self-study. The topics currently covered include e-governance, economic development and innovation, mangrove biodiversity and integrated watershed management. More courses are in production and in 2008, additional UNU units will participate in this initiative which promotes open sharing and global benefits for self-learn

Hi Ashok
Hi Interesting Topic - Content for Telecenters !
I think Both Content and Services are Important
The value of content is when it is served with a service.

Hi! good to be part of this group. I think, telecentres can play an important role in digitising the traditional knowledge available within the village community. I am a firm believer that content generation should start at the local level, then going up to aggregate appropriate content from the outside world. The farmers and other village communiites are great observers and this skill (observation) coupled with experience forms the base of their knowledge.

Contents is the most important thing for any telecentre. I think content should be locally relevant and if possible it should local language. If we involve local people to create content that will be more interesting and attractive for community people. Because they create their content based on their needs.

Dear all,

The content for telecenters should include community issues, and the issues should focus on the objectives of various sets such as;-
Age set (category),CBOs objectives for youth, women and welfare groups from where thy can teach othes as well as learning from others.

Content is always the king. It is the "fountain of the telecenter" where the community draw its water to quench the thirst for information that ultimately will transform into knowledge. Many telecenter practitioners acknowledge this but still a lot of issues need to be resolved- role of local content creation; what contents that are responsive to local
interests and needs; how to sustain content creation; the use of language; contents that generate greater participation to bring
women and other marginalized groups into existing global information flows; appropriate technologies in bringing these content to end user, etc. This forum is indeed appropriate.
