The Way to Money Next Door

This group is about Money, Money & more Money. It shares skills, cases & ways to mobilize for it, organize for it & manage it well for more. It is a must belong to for donors & managers. It looks at tactical and strategic ways of getting Money you need for telecentre activities gushing in; day in: day out. It is not about short gun solutions; it thus calls for bit by bit learning discipline. But by the end members will;

#1. Master the practice of fundraising; skills, tools, techniques and ways
#2. Share success stories on fundraising from donors’ and managers’ side
#3. Identify fundraising opportunities next door and take them by the horns
#4. Refresh on proposal writing as a KEY tool for idea communication
#5. Meet with donors and share ideas before requesting for money.

Our sharing follows the rule of; One idea at a time, Speak simple and clearly, Keep it short, Brief life stories explain better, Think out of the box; anything can be.

With the economic meltdown, is it possible for us to collaborate and write grants together? My area of expertise is online education for elementary through high school students. I have read many of the links posted by members of this forum and I believe my ideas would benefit many of the recently constructed telecentres.

Hello friends,

I came across this paper that helps us to understand the financial meltdown and especially how it impacts telecentres, networks, NGO etc. We are talking about resource mobilisation - I thought its a must read for you. Attached full doc here.

It opens with a note "That the global financial crisis is already impacting philanthropy and nonprofits is clear to everyone who follows daily reports of cancellations of charity drives, closings of programs, and even bankruptcies, or learns about economic troubles at one philanthropic institutions or another. It is also clear that the crisis’ impact is going to spread and deepen for some time to come. Less clear is for how long the crisis and its fallout will last; and especially unclear is what the crisis ultimately means for nonprofit and philanthropic policy-makers, leaders and managers. How could they respond to growing uncertainty in the sector itself as well as in the various fields in which nonprofits and philanthropies operate?"

and concludes that - Responding to a crisis then means both: reducing uncertainties and capitalizing on opportunities. Yet above all, mastering the crisis requires a pro-active stance on behalf of philanthropic and nonprofit leadership – not by asking for old wine to be served in new bottles (as the American car giants or many have been doing), but by embracing what philanthropy stands for: making space for creativity and innovation and preserving past achievements for the benefit of all.

UNU Open Courseware
United Nations University launches the UNU OpenCourseWare Portal, which offers open access to about a dozen courses developed by three of UNU's Research and Training Centres and Programmes (RTC/Ps) and the Tokyo-based UNU Media Studio. The intent of the UNU OpenCourseWare Portal is to make the course materials used by UNU RTC/Ps available on the web, free of charge, to any user anywhere in the world. The initiative is not meant to replace degree-granting higher education or for-credit courses, but rather to provide content that can be used by educators for curriculum development, by students to augment their current learning resources and by individuals for independent self-study. The topics currently covered include e-governance, economic development and innovation, mangrove biodiversity and integrated watershed management. More courses are in production and in 2008, additional UNU units will participate in this initiative which promotes open sharing and global benefits for self-learn

Colleagues

This is an interesting article: Internet Fundraising and the NGO Sector in South Africa

To highlight the growing impact and value of Internet fundraising, approximately 13 million Americans made donations online after hurricanes Katrina and Rita, while Barack Obama raised millions of dollars through the Internet during the US presidential campaign over the past two years.

Internet fundraising usually takes two forms. NGOs either install a “donate” button on their websites or NGOs are listed on a “charity” portal, providing potential funders with NGO choices or causes to donate to.
