Women of Uganda Network (WOUGNET) is a non governmental organization established in the year 2000 by several women’s organizations in Uganda to develop the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) among women as tools to share information and address challenges collectively.

WOUGNET’s mission is to promote the use of ICTs by women and women organizations in order to effectively address national and local problems of sustainable development.

Her main objective is to strengthen the use of ICTs among women and women organizations, build capacities in ICT use and application, and expand activities to reach out to women in the rural areas.

WOUGNET specific objectives include:
To facilitate access to relevant information by WOUGNET members in the rural and urban areas
To provide technical support to WOUGNET members in accessing and applying ICTs in their activities
To advocate for the integration of gender issues in ICT Policies and programs
To provide women in the rural areas access to ICTs through establishment of rural information centres
To build capacity of WOUGNET board members and staff to efficiently and effectively support WOUGNET programs and members in accessing and applying ICTs in their development activities.
Areas of interest/expertise and types of services provided:
To execute its objectives, organizational activities are carried out under 4 major program areas that include: Information sharing and Networking, Technical support, Gender and ICT Policy Advocacy, and Rural Access.

1.3 Details of the programs include:

1.3.1 Information Sharing and networking

Under Information sharing and networking the following activities are implemented;
A mailing list for members is administered for members to exchange and share information
Monthly electronic newsletter, WOUGNET Update Newsletter, with activities by women organisations is produced
WOUGNET website www.wougnet.org that profiles Uganda women organisations and their activities is administered
Online events such as online conferences are hosted
Brochures, Print newsletters produced
Face to face workshops on a variety of themes related to ICT for Development are held.

1.3..2 Technical support
Under this programme the following activities are implemented:
Web Design for WOUGNET members is done in partnership with Interconnection a non-profit organisation in USA
TechTips are provided to answer computer related queries and issues of members
WOUGNET facilitates refurbished computer shipments and acquisition of these computers by civil society organisations. World Space Satellite Radio is made available to members with difficulty in accessing Internet.
WOUGNET continually seeks volunteers to assist in WOUGNET activities, e.g., TechTips, Web Design, information sourcing for members, mailing list set up, administration and moderation, and preparing content for WOUGNET website.

1.3.3 Gender and ICT Policy Advocacy
Under this programme the following activities are implemented:

WOUGNET supports the Uganda Women Caucus on ICT (UWCI) to undertake advocacy activities geared towards addressing gender concerns within the ICT Policies and programmes: Advocacy activities undertaken include:
Building skills in gender and analytical skills for policy makers, journalist and ICT experts
Analysing policy documents
Producing advocacy materials
Raising awareness on the need to integrate gender into policies and programs
Undertaking advocacy meetings

WOUGNET supports Linux chix in promoting use of Free and Open Source Software between the girl child and women in the rural communities.

WOUGNET is participating in the National Internet Government Forum and sits on the advisory committee of the National Internet Government Forum (NIGF).

1.3.4 Rural Access
Under this programme the following activities are implemented:

Information collection, repackaging, and dissemination through radio programmes, listening club meetings and workshops.
Build capacity of rural women to access and use ICTs
Strengthen member organisations to use and apply ICTs by setting up of information centres in the rural areas
