About Me (biography or organization description)
I am the Founder of BOP Source, the first social network that directly connects low-income consumers, or "the base of the pyramid," with the companies that want to hire them and design products and services for them. I am a graduate of UC Berkeley and Harvard University and live in Kathmandu, Nepal, where I am a Columnist for a national business magazine, a Consultant on new media marketing, and a Writer for NextBillion.net.

BOP Source is looking for Telecentre representatives who are interested in teaching their low-income constituents how to use the BOP Source social network. We have partnered with Mahabir Pun of the Nepal Wireless Networking Project to help the poor in Nepal use BOP Source and find jobs with companies. We are looking for additional partners in Nepal and throughout Asia. Please send me a message if you are interested.

I was also a Consultant to the Harvard Center for Health Communication and worked on cause-related marketing at the Harvard Business School and the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, where I brought together leaders from YouthAIDS, MTV, and the academic community.
Areas of Interest/Expertise and Types of Services Provided
I am interested in ICT for development, consumer research at the base of the pyramid, and new media and mobile marketing to the base of the pyramid, all of which BOP Source addresses.

I spoke to Matt Flannery, Founder of Kiva, about my venture BOP Source and about Kiva's upcoming work in Asia. I published a piece on NextBillion.net about the meeting:

Dear Jenara,
I am very glad to respond you immediately as you are likeminded. My name is Bhakta Raj Ranjit, Chairperson of Synergy Nepal, NGO.
I work through Synergy Nepal for rural telecenters in rural and remote villages and districts of Nepal. I do have 12 telecenters which are another name: Information and Communication Service Center for Human Rights (ICSCHR) in four districts.
I have a plan to establish other 13 telecenters in 9 districts with the in-kind help of NTA. Some of them are in very remote districts and a couple of them are then arm conflict district.
Near future, with the partnership of an NGO, I am helping to establish Telecenter Academy in Kathmandu for which we are seeking funds.
Swaabhimaan 2009(Self-reliant)- telecenter conference is being organized in the next month. Hundreds of telecenters managers and or representatives are invited for this conference.
In addition to this, I also leading to develop contents in Nepali language for rural people considering Five Cs thematic of telecenters. For which, I am pursuing grants from doners.
Almost all telecenters urgently need practical knowledge, and skills for making telecenters financially sustainable. I am confident that I will be able to impart training to managers or representatives on entrepreneurship, marketing, income generation, accounting, management. All these basic training will enhance the capacity of telecenters and make them financial sustainable.
Recently, I am also involved in a Nepali magazine-Women Voice. I am bringing voice of rural, excluded, and marginalized women with the help of telecneters and internet for this magazine. Their voice will reach the higher and central level of administration in Sigha Durbar, and will help change the situation positively as time passes.
There is another vital effort right now. The new constitution is being on the process of writing. For which, rural and deprived women will be able to contribution in writing the new constitution with their voice with the help of telecenters very soon.
Therefore, what I have gathered the information on telecenters, and numbers of telecenters are about 250 at present. The figure might be larger as rural people are very aware of the value of telecenters now a days and many telecenters are being established with an effort of individuals as well but no organization has no good record and no networking and monitoring. So, there are a lot of areas that we can work for enhancing the telecenters and their human resources. One of the best thing in the area of telecenter is that the connectivity in rural areas is very good at present due to CDMA technology and that has opened many opportunities.

I am also pleased as you are in Kathmandu and would like to meet you for exploring opportunities, collaboration and partnerships in your interested sectors. May I request you for appointment for sharing?
Warm regards.

Hi Jenera,
Glad to make your acquaintance. I am not sure I completely comprehend bopsource.comdespite my best efforts.., but it sounds very promising. I am familiar with Kiva. I think it is fundamentally based on the same principle as Gareem Bank. However, micro financing is not my area. I am more focused on telecentres and ICT access for all - on macro or micro scale.

Hi Jenera, I was glad to read about your great profile and project. I also read about you haven some talks with Nepal Wireless, How is it going and what help will you need from around the world, especially with people aside Nepal that are willing to share their ideas.

Hi Jenara, thank you for your post. I am really enjoying this ning, learning from everyone and also getting a chance to share some ideas I have been working on regarding new pedagogy and accelerated learning techniques using ICT. I am very interested in applying a whole systems framework to the ICT4D movement focused on sustainability, wealth creation, and 21st Century Learning Skills. Your BOP Source is a critical piece of the puzzle and essential for the process to unfold in a healthy way.
One specific area I was wondering if you had ideas about, is the interest that companies which produce renewabe energy sources such as solar, micro-hydro and biogasification--if they have a CSR culture that would assist in setting up their products as teaching tools in telecenters? In return they would have a first right of refusal of an appropriate percentage of emergent products and ideas that will come from these community centers where their products are labs for experiential and design studies of the students? This is a funding idea I am trying to propose and refine and apply to a Telecenter's sustainability, grounded in the evolving new pedagogy I feel is needed to accelerate the movement. Does that make any sense?
