About Me (biography and organization description)
An anthropologist who was born in Singapore and is currently raising her four children in New York, U.S.A., where she fundraises for The Asia Society and The IDEAL School of Manhattan (an innovative inclusive program in which children with special needs and typically developing children are schooled together within an environment of academic excellence and kindness).

Rachel completed her PhD and B.A. (first class) in Social Anthropology at SOAS (School of Oriental & African Studies, University of London). Her thesis - '"It's rude to interrupt when someone is speaking"... explored the stories created by contemporary African artists and focused on the Pamoja International Sculpture Workshop at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park, as part of Africa 95, U.K. Rachel was sponsored by The British Council in 1996 for her follow up research among the Thapong International Artists' Workshop artists at the National Museum & Art Gallery, Gaborone, Botswana.

Prior to this, Rachel worked as a senior designer & project coordinator for the award winning London based design practice Event Communications Ltd. Projects Rachel has worked on include: The Gurkha Museum, Winchester, U.K.; The Royal Scots Museum, Edinburgh Castle, Scotland; ‘SnapShot Britain,' Museum of London, U.K.; and ‘Pirates: Fact & Fiction' with Dr David Cordingly, and ‘Henry VIII: A European Court in England' with Dr David Starkey, both at the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, U.K. Whilst attending The London College of Furniture, Rachel received a National Design Council bursary and was sponsored to undertake an holography course with Professor Martin Richardson at the Royal College of Art and The Holography Image Studio, London, U.K.

Rachel grew up within The British Army, amongst the Gurkhas Regiments from Nepal. She has lived and worked within Asia, and traveled extensively throughout the world. Since her teenage years Rachel has been influenced by the work of The Gurkha Welfare Trust, Survival International and Anti-Slavery International.
