About Me (biography and organization description)
I am a sociologist by education and training and a researcher by vocation. Since the last three and half years, I have been working on projects dealing with telecentre networks, telecentres and telecentre issues. My background in rural development projects has been helpful in appreciating the pros and cons of ICT for Rural Development (ICT4RD). I specialize in research, knowledge management and communication

The organisation I work for, Centre for Science, Development and Media Studies (CSDMS), formerly known as Centre for Spatial Database Management and Solutions, is a Non Governmental Organisation (NGO) located at Noida, near India’s capital- New Delhi. It has been actively involved in the field of development research since 1997, and is continuously striving towards achieving greater heights through a wide spectrum of activities.

To realise its development goals, CSDMS brings out publications on five thematic areas: 'i4d', 'eHEALTH', 'digitalLEARNING', 'egov', and 'telecentre magazine', which are available both in print and online versions. CSDMS also provides platforms for sharing knowledge to partners through globally renowned conferences like e-Asia and e-India, which attract academicians and researchers from all accross the globe.

Telecentres and Sustainability, 23-25 May, 2011, Bangkok, Thailand, Day I

The sustainability concern reigns supreme in the telecentre domain. It has become so important that in the telecentre context, Bill Gates’ statement, ‘Content is King’ can be slightly modified as ‘Sustainability is King’. If telecentres are not sustainable and are not capable of enduring themselves over a period of time, then everything right from developing local content and locally relevant services to implementing eGovernance at the grassroots level becomes redundant and they also strike…

ICTs and Food, Health and Livelihood Security in the Era of Climate Change: 7th Convention of Grameen Gyan Abhiyan, 27–28 November 2010

A couple of weeks ago, I came across Kentaro Toyama’s thought provoking article, “Can Technology End Poverty?” What Dr. Toyama put forward and beautifully concluded was that yes, technology is important for everyone, but the kind of impact it will have on development depends largely on digitally deprived people’s access to technology, the capability to use the technology and the motivation to use the technology for development, not just for pure and… Continue

Informal like 'Nature': Telecentre.org Academy Counsellors’ Workshop on the Telecentre Management Course

The surroundings in which this two day residential workshop was held also echo the same sentiments. Cradled in the lap… Continue
