About Me (biography or organization description)

telecentre.org is a global program managed by Telecentre.org Foundation that supports the establishment and sustainability of grassroots level telecentres.

These telecentres—public places of access to the Internet and other digital technologies that help promote personal and social development—offer crucial services, skills and opportunities to people living in remote and rural locations around the world.

Through the program, we provide the resources that telecentres need to succeed: locally relevant content and services, support and learning opportunities, and networks that help telecentre activists connect to each other.
With these things in hand, tens of thousands of telecentres will be in a better position to enrich the communities they serve.

Areas of Interest/Expertise and Types of Services Provided

At present, we have the following major initiatives:

1) Telecentre Women
2) Telecentre Sustainability
3) Telecentre Academy

We work with networks and other institutional partners in order to develop a richer ecosystem where a diversity of interconnected players help each other succeed.

We provide advisory services to help policymakers and donors improve their programs, avoid common pitfalls, and make better decisions.

We also have an active global online community in 5 languages – English, Spanish, Arabic, French and Russian – that connects members from different parts of the world and facilitates the widespread sharing of ideas, resources, learning and best practices.

All our efforts are geared towards building a stronger, more sustainable telecentre ecosystem, because we believe that telecentres have an important role to play in development, and we'd like you to get involved.

Thanks for accepting me as a member of this community. I hope I can find help and get incisive advises here for my currently working grants project that is trying to apply a small amount of funds to help a Sri Lanka rural school build its Computer Lab.
