Thailand will be new host of APTN, turnover ceremonies to be broadcast live

On July 31st during the Asia Pacific Telecentre Network (APTN) Leaders Meeting in Bangkok, Thailand will be formally named the new APTN country host, taking over the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA)of Sri Lanka, which hosted the first APTN Secretariat in Sri Lanka since February 2009.

Sri Lanka’s ICT industry shows potential to the world

Sri Lanka turned a new chapter in the field of Information Technology last Wednesday by conducting Asia’s premier ICT event, `e-Asia 2009’ at the BMICH.



The three-day exhibition was declared open by President Mahinda Rajapaksa. Science and Technology Minister Prof. Tissa Vitharana and Information and Communication Technology Agency of Sri Lanka (ICTA), Chairman Prof. P.W. Epasinghe were also present. ICTA was an organiser of the event.

e-Asia 2009 the best event so far, say delegates

e-Asia 2009, the fourth in the series of the premier ICT event in Asia is the best e-Asia so far. This was the consensus of opinion expressed by all the delegates who offered their feedback at the last plenary session held at room B of BMICH Colombo last Friday evening.

President's far-sightedness created Nenasalas instead of internet-cafes: Tissa Vitharana

At a time when world funding bodies proposed the setting of internet-cafés in cities of Sri Lanka in a manner that would cater only to the rich elite President Mahinda Rajapaksa decided that Nenasalas or Wisdom Outlets should be set up instead island-wide to cater to the poor rural folk.
