National Information Society Agency(NIA) held the ''2014 General Meeting of Global IACs'' Network'' from 20th to 22nd October 2014, in Busan, Republic of Korea.
At the General meeting, held in conjunction with the ITU Plenipotentiary Conference, the officers from 27 Information Access Centers (IAC) of 25 countries were present. In celebration of the launch of the ''Global IAC Network (IACNet) as the joint council of IACs, they agreed on the importance of close cooperation and networking for sustainable growth and future development of IACNet.
The members of IACNet are organizations currently in charge of operating the IACs and the President of NIA serves as the Chairman of the Steering Committee.
Also, ‘2014 Best IAC Awards’ was held to award the IACs which have made outstanding achievements in their operating performance and innovation management. The first place winner was the IAC of Uzbekistan while the IAC of Panama took the second place. They were awarded by the Minister of Science, ICT and Future Planning and President of NIA, respectively.
NIA plans to develop and share the best practices among the IACs in order to actively promote the IACNet.
During the 2014 ITU Plenipotentiary Conference, NIA also hosted the 2014 Global ICT Minister Program as well. High-level officials, including ministers and vice-ministers from Nicaragua, Myanmar, Mexico City, Egypt, and Kenya, were invited to attend the program.
As President Park Geun-hye has stated the importance of narrowing the digital divide during the 20 October ITU Plenipotentiary Conference Opening Ceremony, the program aimed to build an international cooperation network through which they shared the latest trends and Korea’s informatization experiences leading hyper-connected digital revolution.
