Asia-Pacific Telecentre Network (APTN) welcomed a new host last July 31st in Bangkok, Thailand, as Thaitelecentre.org formally took over hosting duties from Sri Lanka's Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), which has hosted APTN since February 2009.
Mr. Manit Ratanasuwan, Consultant of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT) of Thailand, conveyed MICT's pleasure at the turnover. In his speech to the audience, he stated, "It is a very great honor to host the Asia Pacific Telecentre Network for the next three years."
The formal turnover ceremony was followed by an APTN Leaders Meeting from July 31 to August 2, which formalized the network's founding members among the organizations present:
The meeting resulted in the approval of the APTN charter, including its governance structure, and the election of an Interim Board, consisting of the Research Center of Communication and Development Knowledge Management (CCDKM) of the Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University as the Chair, ICTA as the Vice-Chair, and CCDKM as the Executive Secretariat.
An Action Plan for the next 12 months was also drafted, identifying priority areas such as governance, membership, partnership and resource mobilization, communications, and capacity building. Finally, committees for each of the identified priority areas were formed.
