Child Safety: How the introduction of the Internet into the life of children affects their security

In Russia, Ukraine and other countries in transition awareness about potential dangers when children go online is insufficient. In 2011 Microsoft Ukraine did research and surveyed children, parents and teachers. More than half of minor Internet users did not know about potentials dangers online, and 36% of children published their addresses in social media and so on.

This data is proof that measures need to be taken to prevent any harm to minors using technology.

A short time ago an awareness campaign with 421 participants took place in the Volgograd region, Russia as well as in smaller towns and villages, including Kikvidzinski, Svetloyarski and other districts. Mashechanskaya, Grishinskaya, Duboovrazhenskaya, Privolzhskaya, Tsatsinskaya, Nariman, Chervlenovskaya, Raygorodskaya and other village libraries welcomed children, parents, grandparents and teachers.

Trainers did video presentations about online safety, organized interactive games and brought educational materials. The most active participants received prizes.

Summer is a great time to provide school children with additional training which is difficult to do during the academic year, because they are very busy with the mandatory studies.

Has your telecentre been doing any summer camps or other activities?

We convey our gratitude to Ludmila Ulieva for sending us the information and photos.
