Team ITA gathered to celebrate the spirit of equality under theme of ‘Equal opportunities for the disabled’ on the 22nd of November 2011 at the Waljat College auditorium.
Dr. Salim Al Ruzaiqi, CEO of ITA opened the forum by highlighting ITA’s firm belief in offering equal opportunities for all people to access information and improve their life using technology.
Ms. Buthaina Mohammed Baqer, a consultant from Sultan Qaboos University, in her presentation presented a clear understanding of what a disability is and the actual needs of the disabled person, especially one who is blind. She explained the etiquette to assist blind people and erased certain myths that everyone had about the expectations of those who are disabled. Click here to download her presentation.
With ITA’s plan to launch several tangible and sustainable measures to help visually impaired individuals, this session helped in enhancing the knowledge of all ITA employees as to how to interact with disabled persons in the ITA work environment. At the end of the session, the audience left with a better understanding of the key issues, clarifying things further during the question and answer sessions with the speaker.
This was followed by and enlightening interactive session with HH Dr. Shariffa Khalid Al Said who shared her ‘Story of Success’. The audience was astounded by her conviction and her struggle to be educated just like any other normal student. Her responses during the question and answer session signaled her broad vision in institutionalizing such awareness and progress measures for those differently-abled people. This event was one of ITA’s many initiatives to make a positive change within the community at large in an inclusive manner.
