Come September this year, the citizens of the capital city of Indonesia can now enjoy free wireless internet service anytime in the city’s major public areas.
According to Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo, the Internet now is considered as a primary need in Jakarta. Through this initiative the City Government is able to meet the needs of the citizens and as well as make them better “connected”.
The Governor revealed that the free internet service is given by a third party company as compensation because the company used fiber optic network in the city.
He added that since the service is given as compensation, the City Government of Jakarta will not be charged for any fee.
At present, the WiFi network has been installed in major public places such as: Monas, Menteng Park, Ayodya Park, Harmoni Busway Bus Stop, Dukuhatas and Jakarta City Hall.
According to Sugiyanta, head of Jakarta Communication and Public Information, the City Government is aiming to roll out the free wireless internet service throughout the city soon.
