Philippine president optimistic about future of telecentre.org in the country

Let me share with you the message of no less than the President of the Republic of the Philippines, Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, on telecentre.org's transfer from Ottawa to Manila:

MALACAÑAN PALACE
MANILA

M E S S A G E

My sincerest felicitations to the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT) as you host the next phase of telecentre.org.

I also wish to convey my warmest greetings and appreciation to the founders and social investors of telecentre.org for bestowing upon the Philippines the distinct honor of providing it a new home from today until 2015. Needless to say, this social investment program, originally hosted by Canada’s International Development Research Centre, will usher in a whole new world of possibilities for both the Philippines and the global telecentre movement.

By its very essence, telecentre.org is consistent with one of the pillars of my government – digital infrastructure. The Philippines through the CICT is committed to continue working towards the empowerment of grassroots communities, strengthened even more by a renewed spirit brought about by this new partnership with the global community.

As we celebrate this major milestone today, I wish nothing but success for the telecentre.org program.
Maraming salamat at mabuhay!

(Sgd.) GLORIA MACAPAGAL ARROYO

I take this opportunity to thank the President of the Republic of the Philippines, Her Excellency Gloria Macapagal Arroyo for her generosity felicitations to the Commission on Information and Communications Technology (CICT).This action from her end will strengthen the spirit of partnership of the telecentre community with the member states.
In this context,I like to add that our Prime Minister,Her Excellency,Sheikh Hasina is patronizing the Digital Bangladesh progamme through all possible means. Her gesture for the promotion of ICT in Bangladesh has been instrumental for the formation of many telecentres across Bangladesh. We hope that the telecentres will help to upgrade the standard of living of our peoples.

Yes, indeed Cuch... that's a well known secret behind every success story. I believe Nenasala (telecentre) Movement in Sri Lanka is a fine example.
Always wish you the best :)))

Government support is really essential and really effective in social- economic development activities of any country in the world. Added to that true leadership and good wishes will further pave the way to the greatest success ever.
In Sri Lanka the IT literacy rate in the country remained only 4% in the year 2004. While the government has acknowledged information and communication technology as the most important force in national development, the pledge the His Excellency the President has given for its development is very important. Therefore, consequent to the pledge made by His Excellency, The President Mahinda Rajapaksa in “Mahinda Chinthana”, e Sri Lanka National Development Project was launched. Under this project, “Nenasala Dahasa” (Thousand Telecentres) project was implemented and there are Nenasalas (telecentres) established in every divisional secretariat unit island wide. There are over 600 Nenasala centres established in Sri Lanka. So today we have reached 30% of IT literacy rate by the end of year 2009. And we must acknowledge that our President has always acted with deep interest in information technology in national politics and it has result a positive impact in the Nenasala (telecentre) movement in Sri Lanka.
So, I’m so glad that with this message from Her Excellency the President of Republic of Philippines Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, the future prospect of telecentre.org Foundation is well secured, promised and it will definitely lead to the success of the global telecentre movement under telecentre.org flagship.
Congratulations telecentre.org 
Best wishes
