A seminar on social entrepreneurship took place recently in the IDEA-Krolevets telecentre (Krolevets, Ukraine). Students, young people and users of the employment services participated. The goal of the seminar was to show the audience the difference between a desire to start one’s own business to make money and an opportunity to make a difference and improve life of the local community.
During the seminar the attendees analyzed the construction of the children’s playground in Krolevets this summer. How could they help provide local children with a place for summer activities? How to motivate dwellers of the town to volunteer? Social media are becoming very helpful to increase awareness about the project.
The commercial aspect of such projects was discussed. During the debate participants analyzed the business side of such non-profit projects. “Thinking that business is only a small activity on the side for a non-profit team is a mistake and could cause loss of investment” was one of the concepts argued.
The seminar was supported by the IDEA project and local government organizations. Photo provided by Volodymyr Lyubyvyi, coordinator of the telecentre.
