Telecentres,, tools for connecting the unconnected

it is an IDEA that might change the world

pls look what the project will look like after 3 years

There are 3 million out schoolchildren in Sudan due to  poverty, war,   climate change and under-served rural areas.  In 2007 Gedaref digital city organization developed an initiative in partnership with Gedaref ministry of education represented by his Excellency albasheer Sahal for the out of schoolchildren. The idea was to use the ICT for e-learning for those children for two years and then the child will we move to class 4 in the normal school. A workshop was held in 2009 to set  a road map for Sudan northern 15 states by the ministry of education (adult education) and the  UNCIEF the big partner of the project. After this workshop in February 2009 Ahfad university, and  many other partners joined the project. In addition, Alahfad university was nominated to be the executive director of the project. A Telecentre with solar unit and 20 laptops started in wad-almutshamir in almigrih in Gedaref state.

When the project started we discover

1- there are seven close villages were more than 10.000 living and more than 99% of the people are illiterate so establishing a project in one village will create a problem and discrimination and inequality which will create a big digital gap where we are suppose to bridge it.

2-  there is no any community services in these village

3- it is very difficult after two years to move the students to the normal schools where there will be a big digital gap and the normal student and even the teacher are not familiar with the internet.

4- it is highly cost  and unsecure  for children 10 – 12 years to be in dormitory and far from their parents.

5- there is high poverty rate in these villages

So a change in the project IDEA took place and we developed a new idea which we expect will face a funding problems but through partnership can be tackled

1- we suggest an e-service integrated Telecentre to train the children in the morning and adult in the evening and provide extension service and work as telemedicine centre

2-   establishing an e-school for those children after two years with a facility of transportation for out of school children

3- establishing a solar unit in each village to charge mobiles at a cost price to create a digital media or community, develop a mobile market, increase the ways communication, increase internet penetration to use income money in sustaining the Telecentres.

4- developing a fight against poverty project to help students complete their education.

So, it is our pleasure to present this idea to you to vote for it the way you like  ,,,, Please comment and share us your opinion on how we can implement this idea
