
Officially opened its doors today in the Philippines.
The international initiative is now transferred from Canada's International Development Research Centre (IDRC), where it was housed and grown since 2005, to the telecentre.org foundation, an independent, non-governmental organization based in Manila.
The opening ceremony began at 09:30 am at new World Hotel at Makati City in Manila the, Welcome remarks was by Angelo Timoteo commissioner, commission on ICT and director general, national computer centre.
Then Mr. Richard Fuche, regional director, IDRC, Regional office for southeast and East Asia started by presented the introduction of the global telecentre movement.
Also, Dr. Rohinton Medhora, vice- President, Programs, IDRC, Ottawa talked about key messages from founding partners.
Dr. Akhtar Badshah, Senior Director, Microsoft Global Community Affairs presented the importance of partners in promotes and develops communities and the role of Microsoft in capacity building and development.
Also, Hon. Senator Angara and. Ray Anthony Roxas, Secretary, Commission on information and communication Technology, launched of telecentre.org and received turnover from Dr. Medhora of IDRC and banging of the gong and symbolic turnover of telecentre.org from IDRC to the Philippines as host of second phase.
Dr. Basheerhamad Shadrach, Executive Director, Telecentre.org presented video presentation about Telecentre.org 1 to 2.0.
And finally, Hon. Senator Edgardo J. Angara, Chairman, Senate Committee on Science and Technology, Senate of the Philippines, he Reviewed the importance of ICT in development community and the importance of the Philippines in host Telecentre.org in the second phase.
