Pakistan is among the five dynamic economies of developing Asia in terms of increased penetration of mobile phones, internet and broadband, says the Information Economy Report, 2009 published by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). Among the five countries in terms of mobile penetration, Pakistan is placed at number three followed by Sri Lanka and Bhutan. India to Launch Long-Awaited Auction of 3G Telecom Bandwidth

India has said that a long-delayed auction of radio bandwidth for third-generation telecommunications services will start in January and will be open to foreign companies. The auction will start on Jan. 14, with bids to be submitted by Dec. 21, the Department of Telecommunications said in an announcement posted on its Web site. It added that the schedule could be revised. ICT Ministers meet for speeding-up delivery of e-Services gets underway

Over 55,000 Common Service Centres (CSCs) of the 1, 00,000 planned, have been rolled out by various State Governments across the country, under National e-Governance Plan (NeGP). Department of Information Technology (DIT) has prepared a plan to position additional 1, 50,000 CSCs to cover all Panchayats bringing the total number to 2,50,000. This was stated by Shri A. Raja, the Union Minister for Communications and Information Technology while addressing a conference of ICT Ministers here today.
